When the planet Krypton was on the verge of destruction, Kal-El's parents sent him away in a rocket to Earth, where he would eventually become humanity's greatest champion. Little did he know that he wasn't the only Kryptonian survivor when, years later, his cousin, Kara, found her way to Earth too.

On Earth, Kara discovers that she possesses all the same powers as Superman. Adopting a similar super-suit bearing the El family crest, Kara also decides to use her special abilities to help those in need as the Girl of Steel—Supergirl!

This inaugural volume contains Supergirl's appearances from May 1959 to May 1962 in the pages of ACTION COMICS #252-288, ADVENTURE COMICS #278, SUPERMAN #139-140 and #144, and SUPERBOY #80, plus her other guest appearances in SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND, LOIS LANE #14 and #20, and SUPERMAN'S PAL, JIMMY OLSEN #40, #46, #51, and #57.
